Honey (Raw, Ethically Harvested, Direct from Source)

R156.00

We have sourced our honey from a local bee guy called Guy.
He has an amazing relationship with the bees he harvests from, and ensures as little harm is done when getting their sacred honey.

How and when is the honey harvested?

The frequency of harvesting the honey depends on the amount of forage available.
If the hive is in a blue gum plantation for example then you would harvest after the flowering season, the same goes for other food sources.

The ethical approach we take means the bees are not migrated from their food supply, but only allowing for the hive to work with what is locally available.Unlike commercial honey, where their approach is to move their hives around upping the harvest but bringing a little more stress to the colony.

With the hive designed the way they are it's only the surplus of honey that is removed.

The honey frames are spinned of their honey quickly, and replaced back into the hive within minimal time - which means also that they don't have to rebuild as much later on.

No honey is harvested from the brood box, where there is sufficient food stores to get them through any stressful times.
